1. VISIT TO THE HUSKY CENTRE

Come to see the friendly Siberian and Alaskan huskies and puppies in the great Husky Centre. Get a husky ride sitting in the sledge or drive the husky sledge yourself (1,5 km). The guide introduces you to the huskies and tells you stories about their life. Hot drinks and snacks in the guest house are included. Possibility to buy souvenirs. (Lunch by advance order).

Price:  48€ / adult, 30 € / 2-12 years old child    Duration: appr. 2 h   

Group size: max 40 pers.  Time: 10:00  (reservations beforehand) or by agreement   Price is valid: 1.– 27.12. & 10.1. – 30.4.

2. HUSKY EXPERIENCE

Experience the magic of dog sledding in the forest trail (6 km, 30 minutes). Two persons are sharing a husky team of 4-6 dogs (a driver and a passenger). The guide is driving the lead team. The guide introduces you to the huskies and gives you the driving and safety instructions. You will get warm winter overalls, shoes and mittens. Hot drinks and snacks in the guest house are included. (Lunch by advance order).

Price:  79€ / adult, 49€ / 2-12 years old child  Duration: appr. 2 h

3. HUSKY SAFARI  20 KM (HALF DAY TOUR)

Experience the art of dog sledding! Two persons are sharing a husky team of 4-6 dogs (a driver and a passenger). The guide is driving the lead team. Driving distance is appr. 20 km. Our experienced guide will teach you how to harness the dog team and gives you the driving and safety instructions. You will get warm winter overalls, shoes and mittens. Hot drinks and snacks are served in the Husky Centre´s guesthouse. (Lunch or dinner by advance order).

Price:  139 € / adult, 97€/ child under 12 years (recommended for children older than 6 years) Duration: 3 h   Group size: 2 -16 persons   Season: 15.1. – 23.4.

4. HUSKY SAFARI 30-35 KM (DAY TOUR)

Experience the art of dog sledding! With a team of 4-5 husky dogs you will trek through the forests and frozen lakes enjoying the peace of nature and exciting experience of dog sledding. The guide is driving the lead team and you are driving your own sledge behind. Driving distance is 30-35 km. Our experienced guide will teach you how to harness the dog team and gives you the driving and safety instructions. You will get warm winter overalls, shoes and mittens. On a half way of the trip hot drinks and snacks by campfire are served. (Lunch or dinner by advance order in the Husky Centre´s guesthouse).

Weekend Husky Safari near the Russian border in Finland

(February–March 2011, 3 nights / 2 days dog sledding)

Experience the art of dog sledding! This special Husky Safari is the combination of real wilderness and comfortable accommodation. With a team of husky dogs you will trek through the big forests and frozen lakes enjoying the peace of nature and exciting experience of dog sledding. You and your dogs must work as a team. Our experienced local guide will teach you how to deal with the dogs and sledge. Overnight you will spend in a cosy wilderness lodge having sauna and dinner. This is a holiday you´ll never forget!

Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kuusamo airport to Martinselkonen wilderness lodge (150 km). Accommodation in double rooms (for extra charge single room). Meet the guide and the other members of the group for short information about the programme. You will get warm winter equipment (shoes, overalls, hats and mittens). Sauna and dinner.

Day 2: Breakfast. Introduction to your personal team of huskies and dog sledding. Driving and safety instructions. Dog sledding 40 km. The trail is passing through nature protection area of old growth forests and swamps. On a half way lunch at on old farm house Arola. After the tour taking care of the dogs. Sauna and dinner at Martinselkonen wilderness lodge.

Day 3: Breakfast. Dog sledding about 40 km. Picnic lunch by open fire. Taking care of the dogs and saying good buy for them. Sauna and dinner at Martinselkonen wilderness lodge.

Day 4: Breakfast. Transfer to Kuusamo Airport (150 km).

Group size: 4-6 persons

Activity profile: No experience is necessary, but you should be reasonably fit and be able to cope with the cold. You should have personal travel insurance.

Husky Safari along the Russian border in Finland

(February–March 2011, 6 nights / 5 days dog sledding)

This unique Husky Safari runs along the Finnish-Russian border in boreal Taiga forest. With a team of husky dogs you will trek through the old growth forest, frozen lakes and swamps enjoying the peace of nature and exciting experience of dog sledding. The frontier zone on the eastern border of Finland has been established to maintain public order and safety. To enter the frontier zone without permit is forbidden. Our trail is following the back boundary line of the frontier zone. The frontier zone is also the biggest “nature protection area” in Finland and favoured by wild animals like wolverine, wolf, bear and elk. Our trail is also passing through the reindeer husbandry area.

The husky safari in this area allows you to discover the sights and sounds of northern winter, the dry cold of the snowy landscape of subtle colours and totally black sky with thousands of stars and with good luck, Northern Lights. You are driving a personal dog sledge pulled by a team of five Siberian or Alaskan huskies. Our local sled dog guide is showing the way. Second guide is driving the snow mobile in far front. Daily distances vary from 20 to 46 km. A general level of fitness will help you get the most out of this safari. Our guide will teach you how to drive the sledge and deal with your dogs. You and your dogs must work as a team. You will learn to harness the dogs and take care of them.

After a day full of experiences it is nice to relax in a cosy and comfort wilderness lodge having sauna and dinner with traditional Finnish dishes. The accommodation places have good facilities (electricity, running water, shower, sauna, toilet).

Day 2 (Sat): Breakfast. Introduction to the programme. You will get warm winter equipment (shoes, overalls, hats and mittens). Introduction to your personal team of huskies and dogsledding. Driving and safety instructions. Training drive appr. 20 km. Coffee-break. Taking care of the dogs. Sauna at Martinselkonen wilderness lodge. Special dinner at Kota (Lappish tepee), glow-fried salmon.

Day 3 (Sun): Breakfast. Personal luggage is carried in the sledge, therefore take a rucksack or sea sack with you. Dogsledding 46 km. Picnic lunch by campfire. Taking care of the dogs. Sauna and dinner at log cabin at Raate. This cabin has one twin room for two persons and one big sleeping loft for five persons (mattress beds).

Day 4 (Mon): Breakfast. Dogsledding 32 km (day tour). Lunch by open fire. Taking care of the dogs. Sauna and dinner at Raate.

Day 5 (Tue):. Breakfast. Dogsledding 46 km. Lunch by open fire. Taking care of the dogs. Sauna and dinner at Matinselkonen wilderness lodge.

Day 6 (Wed): Breakfast. Dogsledding 38 km. Lunch at an old farm house. Taking care of the huskies and saying good buy for them. Sauna and dinner at Martinselkonen wilderness lodge.

Day 7 (Thu): Breakfast. Transfer to Kuusamo Airport (150 km).

Group size: 4 - 6 persons

Price: 1920 € / person. Sgl room extra at Martinselkonen 40 € / person.

25.2.-3.3.2011 (guaranteed departure, max 6 persons)
